Plans for 500-room workers camp at Wellcamp Airport
PLANS have been lodged with Toowoomba Regional Council to build a 500-room workers camp next to the Wellcamp Airport.
Mass Accommodation is behind the camp which would be built in two, 250-room stages and include a commercial kitchen and recreation facilities.
The company is awaiting approval from council to start construction works on the 40,000sq m site.
James Donnelly from Mass Accommodation told ABC Southern Queensland that 150 rooms had already been booked by companies associated with the Surat Basin's coal seam gas industry.

Mr Donnelly said that while the major works on the Surat Basin were winding down, there was still a lot to be done.
"There's still 20 more years work," he said.
Mr Donnelly said workers camps appealed to coal seam gas and resource companies because they provided for the welfare of their workers.
"Housing doesn't work for these companies," he said.

"They need to make sure of the welfare of the men and women in their workforces."
Mr Donnelly said Mass Accommodation wanted to use Darling Downs companies to provide food and other products to the camp.
"The opportunities for businesses in Toowoomba and across the Surat Basin are significant," he said.
Council is currently considering the development application.
