Adelaide adopt win at all costs attitude

FOOTBALL: Adelaide United defender Taylor Regan says he and his teammates must have a win-at-all-costs attitude when it takes on Newcastle Jets at Coopers Stadium tonight.

The Reds are rooted to the bottom of the A-League and are coming off the back of a 5-0 thrashing by Perth Glory last week.

Regan said the time had come for the players to stop playing nice.

"We have everything a good squad needs,” 28-year-old Regan said yesterday.

"We need momentum, we need results and winning's a habit. Right now, we don't have that habit.

"Tomorrow we need to bite them, scratch them, pinch them, do whatever we have to do to win.”

Regan looks likely to start ahead of injured teammate Iacopo La Rocca, who is set for a six-week stint on the sidelines with a hip tendon injury.

Adelaide will also begin its Asian Champions League campaign next week with a home clash against Japan's Gamba Osaka on Wednesday.

Regan said a win tonight against the Jets would give the team momentum heading into the next part of the season.

"The ACL's a bit of a fresh start too... there's a Chinese team in Newcastle at the moment that have just drawn and lost, and that's against NPL sides,” he said.

"So it's a different league, you know, it's a different feel about it. It's not as physical as the A-League and as demanding and they're in off-season.

"So we worry about that when it comes Wednesday but if we can get a good result tomorrow night here in front of the fans it gives the fans something to cheer even more on Wednesday.”
