LATEST: Chopper crash in remote CQ region

UPDATE 8.10PM: THE pilot and sole occupant of a helicopter that crashed into power-lines at Blackall this afternoon is being transported to hospital by the Royal Flying Doctors Service.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman confirmed paramedics have transported the man, approximately 34 years old, to Isisford where he will be met by RFDS paramedics.

The spokesman said the man is in a stable condition, but has sustained serious injuries.

It is unknown at this time which hospital the man will be taken to.

Further details about the crash are unknown at this time, but a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the incident would undergo a Workplace Health and Safety investigation.

The Queensland Police Service, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Queensland Ambulance Service and a cvil aviation body all attended the incident, which occurred about 3.10pm. 

 

EARLIER: A HELICOPTER has crashed into power-lines in remote and difficult to access area about halfway between Longreach and Blackall.

The chopper went down on Blackall Emmett Rd and a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said police were called to the incident about 3.10pm.

 

 

It is understood a Life Flight Helicopter was later called in to take the male pilot to hospital. 

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said earlier that crews had difficulty accessing the site. .

Queensland Ambulance Service crews are tried to respond by road.
