An alleged rapist failed to appear in Charleville court

CHARLEVILLE police will now issue a warrant to a man charged with two counts of rape after he failed to turn up to court.

Magistrate Peter Saggers said the man failed to provide any valid reason for not showing up in the Charleville Magistrates Court today, September 19.

Police prosecutor sergeant Caroline Boodnikoff said the alleged offender had previous matters already dealt with in court and now these offences have been in the magistrates court since the beginning of this year.

Magistrate Saggers said the case has been dragging on – “there was going to be a registry committal and then there was mucking around with legal aid”.

Police will now seek a warrant to the alleged offender.
