Balonne Shire tourism grants now open

Balonne Shire Council’s Tourism Events Grants program has officially opened to local event organisers, offering a leg up to those with bright ideas for attracting visitors to our region.

Aimed at supporting the development, promotion and execution of events which make a positive and ongoing contribution to the shire, the program will provide funding for events which attract, or have the potential to attract, a significant number of visitors to the Balonne Shire.

From February 1, organisers with established events can apply for a grant of up to $6000 across three categories: regional events, destination events, major events.

One-off funding of up to $2000 is also available to develop new events for the Balonne.

Mayor Samantha O’Toole has encouraged locals involved with events to make the most of this

opportunity to boost their Balonne Shire event.

“Tourism Events are an important and growing part of our local economy and add to the vibrancy of our region,” she said.

“Already we have seen a handful of local events put our shire on the map, like the St George 399; the team has made a successful past application, and their event attracts national attention to the Balonne Shire.

“If we can create more success stories like these, that is a huge win for our local economy and all residents of the Balonne Shire.”

Applications for Tourism Events Grants close March 1.

Detailed information on each funding category is available on Balonne Shire Council’s website:
