Doors open for big business to fly in to Mackay airport

MACKAY'S first international economy standard Ibis Hotel has been officially opened.

Suite tours and complimentary menu taste-testing followed the ribbon-cutting ceremony and executives and guests from the community were eager to enjoy Mackay Airport's latest addition.

North Queensland Airport director Andrew Fellowes said the $30million project was a step forward in the region's planned 20-year overview.

"Part of that was building the new hotel and the other part was providing terminal facilities, new car parks, but also making use of the land for things like commercial development," he said.
