Katter condemns PM’s Barnaby ‘attack’

MAVERICK MP Bob Katter weighed in on Malcolm Turnbull's decision to ban minister-staff relations saying the Prime Minister's manner towards Barnaby Joyce was vicious.

Mr Katter laughed at the concept of banning sexual relations in parliament, telling The Courier-Mail there are more pressing matters to consider.

"You naughty little boy, your conduct has been totally unacceptable to this school, and we are standing you down now for two days and you are very lucky you aren't getting six cuts of the cane. You naughty boy," he joked.

However, Mr Katter was concerned with the manner in which Mr Turnbull conducted the new code of ministerial standards, and the way he addressed Joyce's actions.

"The Prime Minister venomously and without restraint, attacked the Deputy Prime Minister," he said.

"The fact the country is going bankrupt a hundred miles an hour, and we've got nothing to sell to the rest of the world, and we've made the decision to buy everything from overseas.

"Well no, we [focus] on important things like who Barnaby Joyce was with."

"I've always defended Joyce, in the sense that I've said there are only three country people left in the parliament," he told The Courier-Mail.

"[But] what has Joyce done?

"We've got a suicide going off every six days in agriculture, that's supposed to be your [Joyce's] zone of responsibility.

"Tell me one single thing that you [Joyce] have done.

"There is nothing. You said that you were going to build dams, there ain't any dams.

"You said you were going to develop the North - there ain't any development.

"The situation will go on and on, and it won't go away when the Prime Minister himself denigrates in a most hostile and confrontational manner his Deputy leader and stands him down effectively for two weeks," he said.
