Boredom got the best of a young Charleville father who graffitied the window ledge of the courthouse, while waiting to be a witness for an unrelated matter.

CCTV footage captured Paul Alex Hallinan, 23, scratch ‘Paul H’ into the window ledge of the court building on November 5, 2020.

Hallinan proceeded to tell Magistrate Peter Saggers he was so bored while waiting to be a witness, he even fell asleep outside.

The defendant fronted the Charleville Magistrates Court on Monday, January 11 and pleaded guilty to wilful damage by graffiti.

His solicitor, Chelsea Saldumbide told the court her client engaged in “low level” offending and understands it was a stupid thing to do.

Hallinan is the father to a one-year-old child and is currently employed at a goat abbitoir.

He was ordered to complete 40 hours of community service and pay $185 compensation.

“It was a pretty mindless thing to do, waiting to give evidence and sitting there putting PH into the window,” Magistrate Saggers said.

“Don’t come back before the courts, you have a job and a child and that’s no example to set.”

The conviction was recorded.
