UPDATE 6.25PM: POLICE could not provide an update tonight on whether or not the man taken into custody today had been charged. 

 

UPDATE 12.30pm: A kindergarten teacher raced outside to see what was happening to find a male in handcuffs lying pinned on the ground in McLaughlin st with police around him.

Moments before she had seen a police car drive past the entrance to the Glenmore Community Kindergarten where she was working with other staff and at least a dozen children were playing inside.

The police advised her the suspect was in custody and the matter in hand.

The teacher said there was no need to go into lock down.

 "The children were oblivious to what was happening," she said.

UPDATE 11.45AM: A QLD Police spokeswoman has confirmed a male is in custody following a chase in Kawana this morning.

The spokeswoman said the male was wanted for questioning in regards to the theft of a motor vehicle.

No further details were available.

BREAKING 11.30AM: POLICE have one person in custody after an extensive search and chase through Kawana.

It is understood the dog squad was deployed and police set up cordons at multiple intersections near Glenmore State High School as they chased a male offender through bushland and backstreets.

He was moments ago caught and arrested on McLaughlin St, near Stenlake Park.

It is unclear at this stage what prompted the chase but it is understood property crime units are at the scene.
