Girl, 12, taken to hospital after being hit by car
UPDATE 6.47pm: A GIRL was taken to hospital after she was hit by a car at Valley St, North Mackay this afternoon.
The 12-year old is believed to have run across the road about 3pm; witnesses reporting the girl didn't appear to see a car that was travelling about 30kmh towards her.
The car swerved to avoid her, according to a Queensland Police Service spokesman.
However, the driver was unable to escape a collision with the girl.
After the crash, the girl was taken to Mackay Base Hospital, according to a Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman, and it's understood she suffered an ankle injury and was in a stable condition.
Paramedics were called to the scene at 3.16pm.
Mackay Base Hospital were contacted for comment, but were unable to provide more information at this stage.
When the Daily Mercury arrived at the scene paramedics were busy attending to the girl, while police were speaking to several witnesses.
Valley St was blocked off with traffic cones and a parked fire truck for about 50 minutes while emergency services were working.
The police spokesman was not able to say conclusively whether officers at the scene breath tested the driver of the car, but did say it was standard procedure after such an incident.
Investigations were continuing, but the driver of the car had not been charged at time of publication.
An independent witness provided details to police in a statement, the spokesman added.
Initial details provided to the Mercury were sketchy, but police were able to provide some clarification after more information became available.
UPDATE 4:07pm: Paramedics have transported a woman aged in her 20s to Mackay Base Hospital with an ankle injury.
Mackay Police Sergeant Robert Dunbar said it was a "single-vehicle accident" and police were talking to witnesses to find out exactly what happened.
He directed further questions to Queensland Police Service media.
According to a Queensland Police Service spokesman a teenager girl was involved in the crash on Valley St.
The woman in her 20s was transported in a stable condition.
Paramedics were busy attending to a patient while the Daily Mercury was at the scene, while police were speaking to witnesses.
Valley St has been reopened.
UPDATE 3.49pm: Police have closed a section of Valley St around the site where a teenage girl was hit by the car.
Queensland Fire & Emergency Services, QAS and police are on the scene.
Police are questioning witnesses.
INITIAL: Paramedics are on scene where a pedestrian, believed to be a 13-year-old girl, has been injured after being hit by a car.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman says paramedics were called to Valley St, North Mackay at 3.16pm.
At this early stage Queensland Ambulance Service does not know the extent of the girl's injuries.
