A Warwick man is in police custody after officers allegedly chased the wanted man both in a vehicle and on foot through the Southern Downs.

A white sedan allegedly being driven by the man was first spotted just before 2pm on Junabee Rd.

Police officers followed the vehicle and deployed tyre spikes on Warwick-Yangan Rd near Yangan in an attempt to stop the 23-year-old.

Killarney Police Sergeant Brad Doyle said the vehicle continued to drive with pierced back tyres and initially attempted to turn towards Killarney, before changing direction and heading for Warwick.

"A pursuit was authorised after he continued and was causing a danger to himself and other road users," Sgt Doyle said.

According to police, the man then allegedly hit a second set of road spikes on Yangan Rd, which popped the front tyres, and continued to drive down Jackie Howe Dve and onto Horsman Rd.

But at the corner of Horsman Rd and Weeondilla Rd, the damaged car couldn't go any further.

Sgt Doyle claimed he then ran from the car through backyards but was caught at the Condamine River.

"Fortunately the two officers he tried to run away from were triathletes," he said.

The man was immediately taken into custody, along with two other men who were also allegedly in the vehicle.

Police have been searching for the man for about two weeks as they believe he may be linked to an incident involving a Jeep Compass.

The Jeep was allegedly stolen from a Warwick address on Thursday May 10 and found abandoned at the back of a dwelling house on Wood St the next day.

He may also be connected to the dumping of a black Ford XR6 at Killarney after it was allegedly stolen from Jimboomba this week.

Sgt Doyle said he was pleased with the result.

"We were pleased we were able to apprehend and prevent further offences," he said.
