COMEBACK KID? Public opinion around PM shifts after COVID-19
PRIME Minister Scott Morrison's actions stirred ire in the face of the Australian public during last year's horror bushfires.
The praise he has won in the wake of the pandemic is in hard contrast to backlash over last year's bushfires that saw everyday people refusing to even shake his hand.
But the PM's handling of the coronavirus pandemic seems to have won him back much support.
The NewsMail asked readers to comment on how they felt about his performance, and to also cast a vote from one to 10 on his current efforts.
At present count, the vote stands at 33 per cent of voters rating Scomo a 10, 25 per cent rating him a one and a smaller percentage of votes scattered around a four or five.
The NewsMail's Facebook audience was forward when it came to praise for the PM.
"Yeah, great effort. He listened to people who knew what was happening," Clinton Honor said.
"Key to any solid leadership; you aren't the font of all knowledge, take advice from experts no matter what the outcome."
Geoff Cameron was just as impressed.
"I think he absolutely nailed it!" "Regardless of people's opinions of the virus, he nailed what he was told to do by others.
"Hope his family are ok with his extended absence from them."
The overwhelmingly postiive reviews continued with Leanne Creese, who said Morrison did an awesome job.
"He was put in a position that no one ever saw coming," she said.
"He has done so many long hours in the office then faced the media to keep us all up-to-date.
"We are very lucky we have a PM as good as Scott and not a d---head like Trump.
"Sco Mo keep up the great work and take a break when virus is over."
Many readers commented on how hard it must be to be a politician and face so much scrutiny, while others also thanked the medical experts to helped lead the charge.
"The Prime Minister and all the premiers have done an outstanding job during this crisis," Noelene Polzin said.
"The chief medical officers should be commended for their contribution and advice to our leaders."
Some said, however, that the PM was simply doing his job.
But Donna Gates was filled with praise.
"I believe he has been a great leader through all the pressure of something unprecedented and potentially deadly," she said.
