Croc removalists working overtime in North Queensland
AUTHORITIES have removed at least 44 saltwater crocodiles from Queensland waterways this year, and they have more in their sights.
The state's Environment Department has issued a public warning about four crocodiles living in a suburban lake near Cairns, the largest estimated to be 3.5m long. Another was found sunbaking in a person's yard on the lake's banks.
Traps will be set in an effort to catch and move the reptiles. Departmental figures show the biggest crocodile removed so far this year was a 4.7m-long monster spotted at The Strand in Townsville in February.
