DEIDRE Turner and Matt Taylor have a newspaper photograph of their 1952 Dodge Kingsway Hearse sitting outside the house where a man was murdered.

They own the only two of the iconic hearses in Australia, and are still searching the archives to find their history.

"We are still trying to find out which funeral home in Sydney it originally belonged to," Ms Turner said.

"So far we have found the newspaper clipping, but we are still trying to find out the rest."

While the pair said there was still a lot of work to do fixing up the car and tracking down its history, they showed it off at the Mopars in Mackay event this Saturday.

Mr Taylor said it was the gothic windows that first got him interested in the vehicle.

"I first noticed it under a friend's house in Walkerston in about 1990," Mr Taylor said. "Three years ago I bought it from them. We had to wash it more than a few times, and the brakes needed fixing, but it was the windows that got me."

It was the seventh time organiser Carey Regan had put on the event, and he said more than 1200 people came along.

"We had 94 cars shown, up from 83 last year," he said.

"I just put it on for the passion, and I want to thank everyone who helped."
