DONALD Glover did what he had to do to keep the news of being cast as young Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story a secret.

"I stopped talking to friends," he told Page Six at a Cinema Society screening of the blockbuster film.

"I had a friend who's super into Star Wars and I think it was out that I auditioned and he was already like, 'Oh my God, you're Lando,' before I'd gotten the part."

In order to keep the casting news a secret, he told his friend he didn't land the role, even though he was still going through the audition process.

"I guess lying to friends was the hardest part," he said.

But there was one person Glover did tell when he got the good news.

"I told my dad immediately. I know I wasn't supposed to, but I told him immediately just because it was a big deal to him," Glover, 34, said. "He's a huge fan and Lando was, like, my first toy he gave me. It was just a big deal."

Keeping plot details secret is a huge problem facing plenty of highly anticipated movies and TV series these days.

In fact, the team behind Game of Thrones are constantly reworking their system to avoid spoilers leaking. Late last year, HBO boss Casey Bloys revealed that the Thrones cast wouldn't even know how the show ends.

Speaking at a US college in September, Bloys said: "I know in Game of Thrones, the ending, they're going to shoot multiple versions so that nobody really know what happens. You have to do that on a long show. Because when you're shooting something, people know. So they're going to shoot multiple versions so that there's no real definitive answer until the end."
