Stanthorpe Campdraft ready to rock this weekend

CAMPDRAFTING: Preparation for the 2016 Stanthorpe Campdraft is underway, with organisers predicting a big crowd this weekend for three days of campdrafting action at the Stanthorpe Showgrounds.

Stanthorpe Campdraft subcommittee secretary Paula Boatfield said it was an event for the whole family.

"Our event involves the coordination of over 1000 head of cattle, over 400 horses and over 300 people and is no mean feat," she said.

"Our two-day program is proving popular with our riders and we really do try to fit everyone in. Campdrafting is such a popular sport that the whole family can participate in, as well as friends, couples and individuals. Its one of the few sports where men and women compete as equals."

Saturday events will feature the Keith Thorne Building maiden draft and final, Stanthorpe Pony Club junior draft, K&A Building juvenile draft and Supafloats open draft and final.

On Sunday will be the David Schnitzerling and Co encouragement draft and Stanthorpe Vet Care novice draft and final.

There will be events on Friday night, with a teams three-cow competition draft from 6pm. Teams of three riders will take three beasts from the cutout yard and move them around a course.

"It's a demonstration of true teamwork and communication. When its done right, it's a pleasure to watch," Boatfield said.

The signature draft returns on Sunday with the All Jazzed Up for Hair and Beauty Mum's Run.

"Sunday is Mother's Day and, to thank the mums for giving up their day to support our draft, we'd like to support them by offering a free extra run for mums, between the encouragement and the novice drafts," she said.

Admission is free and there will be catering on both days supplied by Stanthorpe Pony Club volunteers.
