Police bust drunk highway driver with hazard lights on

HE ONLY intended to have one drink but one turned into nine for Christopher Lee Hamilton, who was caught driving with a blood alcohol reading of 0.212%.

Police spotted Hamilton's car driving with its hazard lights on along the Burnett Hwy in Bouldercombe on September 3.

The Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard last Thursday that Hamilton had drunk six Bundy Rum cans and three Vodka Cruiser stubbies between 1pm on Wednesday and 1am on Thursday.

He had driven to the licensed premises for his brother-in-law and intended to have one drink there.

His last drink driving offence was in October 2013, where he was caught with a reading of 0.077%.

Magistrate Cameron Press told Hamilton it was a dangerous reading, and fined him $1500.

He was also disqualified from driving for 18 months.
