Drug addict with $50,000 bail to help run cattle farm

THE mother of a man facing serious drugs charges will notify police if her son even thinks about taking drugs, a court has heard.

Leon Gary Cremor was released on bail on a $50,000 surety under 12 conditions, including that he live at a place stipulated by the court and not take or possess drugs.

Police allege he committed the drug offences in Airlie Beach, north of Mackay.

Mr Cremor's defence barrister, Ben Power told Justice Glenn Martin in the Brisbane Supreme Court that his client's mother and stepfather said Mr Cremor could live with them on their cattle farm about 50 minutes from Rockhampton.

The mother and stepfather also offered a $50,000 cash deposit.

They said they would not tolerate drug-taking and if Mr Cremor stayed with them he would spend his days helping them run 2000 head of cattle and with general property maintenance and controlling weeds.

Mr Power said Mr Cremor was unlikely to re-offend because the case against him was very strong and he no longer had any customers for selling drugs.

"(Police) had a device in his car, they were tapping his phone, they had a covert police officer involved and the ultimate buy-bust occurred," Mr Power said.

"It is implausible he would be able to re-establish trafficking given that the police have in fact identified all of his customers."

Mr Power said Mr Cremor also hoped to tackle his drug addiction and could attend rehabilitation courses in Rockhampton.

Although the prosecution opposed bail, Justice Martin granted it under a dozen conditions.

They included a curfew, reporting requirements and drug screening tests if requested by police.

Mr Cremor cannot leave Queensland, enter an international airport or contact any prosecution witnesses.

Justice Martin closed the court for a period at Mr Power's request while he made certain submissions.
