Suspect drunk driver charged for smashing into parked cars

A MAN who is suspected to have crashed into a couple of parked cars in Airlie Beach on Saturday night has blown more than three times the legal limit.

Police have alleged that the 20-year-old man from New South Wales crashed into two parked cars on Orana St around 7.30pm on Saturday and then travelled hundreds of metres on the car's wheel rims to try and flee the scene.

The car was later abandoned on Waterson Way and police allegedly located the driver on Lamond St where the person returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.175.

He will appear in Proserpine Magistrates Court on February 27 charged with drink driving, driving without due care and attention and also failing to comply with responsibilities of a driver involved in a crash.
