Caleb Mark Westbrook thought he would be okay to drive home after drinking six heavy beers, but his error of judgment landed him in court.

Police prosecutor sergeant Heather Whiting told the Roma Magistrates Court on January 19 that Westbrook told police he had six Great Northern stubbies in the past six hours, the last one 20 minutes before being pulled over on Queen St, Roma.

He blew 0.062 at 10.50pm on December 22.

Westbrook, representing himself, said he agreed with sergeant Whiting’s facts.

“It was over a reasonably long amount of time,” Westbrook said.

Magistrate Peter Saggers warned him that it’s safest not to drink if he plans to drive.

“If you’re going to try and do those guess calculations, you’re always going to run the risk,” Magistrate Saggers said.

Coming before the court with no prior history, Westbrook pleaded guilty to driving over the general alcohol limit but not over the middle, was fined $350 and lost his licence for one month.

No conviction was recorded.
