House under guard as police try to determine cause of fire
UPDATE 4PM: Police are treating the scene of a house fire at Leichhardt this morning as suspicious.
Police said the house at Sturt St remained secured while their forensic team investigated the scene, but the cause of the fire was not known at this stage.
A woman was the only occupant when the fire broke out at 10.45am but escaped safely.
The home was completely destroyed in the blaze.

UPDATE NOON: Fire crews have extinguished a house fire at Sturt St in Leichhardt.
A woman was believed to be in the home at the time the fire broke out about 10.50am but escaped unharmed soon after and was waiting outside the home when firefighters arrived at the scene.
Brassall station officer Bob Ironside said the home was gutted by the fire but crews managed to contain the fire from neighbouring homes.
He said the fire had engulfed the home by the time the first crews arrived on the scene.
Police cordoned off the neighbourhood following reports of sparks from overhead powerlines and thick smoke.
The cause of the fire was not known and police are investigating the incident.

11AM: Three fire crews are battling a house fire at a property on Sturt St in Leichardt.
Emergency crews were called to the site shortly before 11am.
