Five candidates in LNP preselection ballot for Maranoa
MARANOA members of the LNP will have five candidates to choose from in the pre-selection ballot next month.
With nominations formally closed on Friday, the five that have put their hats into the ring to replace retiring MP Bruce Scott are: David Littleproud, Cameron O'Neil, Lachlan Douglas, Alison Krieg and Rick Gurnett.
Mr Littleproud and Mr O'Neil are joint favourites to replace Mr Scott.
Mr Littleproud is a Suncorp bank manager in Warwick and leading light in the local chamber of commerce.
Mr O'Neil is from Longreach now living in Roma and a councillor with Maranoa Regional Council. He works for QMDC and is a former president of the Young Nationals and was also president of Commerce Roma.
Mr Douglas is a southern Queensland regional manager for Rabobank, Ms Krieg is a grazier from Blackall and Mr Gurnett is a grazier from Charleville and a local LNP president.
An LNP statement announcing the candidates said members would vote via a postal plebiscite to choose the candidate because of the large size of the Maranoa electorate.
The ballot closes on Thursday, October 22 and votes will be counted to determine the candidate on Friday, October 23.
The statement said neither the candidates nor the Party would make any public comment until the process has concluded "as pre-selections are a matter for LNP members."
