Four dead in horror day on Bruce Hwy

POLICE are investigating a fatal traffic crash on the Bruce Hwy yesterday that claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl.

Initial information indicates a car and a utility have crashed head-on, 10km south of Bowen about 12.30pm yesterday afternoon

A 15-year-old girl, a passenger in the car, died at the scene as a result of injuries received in the crash. The 45-year-old female driver and two girls - aged 10 and eight - were taken to Bowen Hospital.

The driver and eight-year-old were flown to Mackay Hospital yesterday afternoon for the eight-year-old to be treated for leg fractures. All three were in a stable condition.

The driver and sole occupant of the utility involved in the crash was transported to Bowen Hospital and later released without injury.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the crash.

Meanwhile, three people died when a car - carrying five people - rolled on the Bruce Hwy about 4km south of Home Hill about 2pm yesterday.

Two men and a woman, died in the fatal crash, not four people as originally reported.

Two people, a man and a woman, were taken to Townsville Hospital for treatment.

Police investigations suggested speed was a factor.
