Child rapist jailed for abusing four more girls under 12

CONVICTED child rapist Dean Peter Crump has had a lengthy jail term extended after pleading guilty to abusing four girls younger than 12.

The 63-year-old New Zealand national detailed his remorse to Maroochydore District Court on Wednesday after two years was added to a nine-year prison term he began in January.

Crump was convicted after a trial in January for serious abuse of a girl under 12 at Buderim and also at a property near Gympie over a near six-year period.

He this morning faced charges of indecent treatment and attempted indecent treatment of four other girls at a property near Gympie.

The court heard Crump became an ambulance officer in New Zealand in 1985.

He progressed his training to become involved in helicopter rescue before taking on a medic role in Iraq in 2004.

He and his wife moved to Australia in 2006, so his travel to Iraq would be easier.

Defence barrister Stephen Courtney said his client wanted to become an Australian citizen but did not come within the age restrictions.

After that role ended he worked as an ambulance bearer at Maryborough before taking on a role in a mine as well as long-haul truck driving.

Judge John Robertson said an example of how perverted Crump had become occurred when he pulled apart the legs of an eight-year-old girl on a bed and positioned himself between them while there were two other children sitting on the bed.

He sentenced Crump to two years in jail, meaning he will be eligible for parole on January 19, 2021.

Crump said after sentence he would use his time in prison to turn his life around.

"I just can't even express how bad I feel about having put them (victims) through this," he said.
