The rugby 7's tournament returned this year and was bigger than ever with teams from across the state converging to Roma, with a prize pool worth tens of thousands of dollars.
Men and women's teams from across the Central Highlands, Rockhampton, Brisbane, Gladstone, Sunshine Coasts and locally - Toowoomba, Chinchilla and Warwick gathered at Gallas Fox Park yesterday, Saturday February 6.
There was a record of 42 teams with both the A grade social men's and women's championships scoring the largest number of nominations ever.
The women played it for the hotly contested Emilee Cherry Cup.
The rugby 7's started only a few years ago with 10 local teams competing, now is annual excitement for the Maranoa region.
Sponsored by Origin Energy, the general manager of Spring Gully and Denison Asset Dave Atkin said Origin is proud to promote female sporting talent from regional areas in 2021.
"This is an exciting time for the Maranoa as community activities are reinstated following a tough year of COVID-19 restrictions," he said.
"This competition brings talent and visitors to our region and gives our community a chance to come together to support each other."
