Roma's racing season kick off for the year with the first race meet being the 2021 Sydeva Haulage Bendemere Cup.

The race meet on Saturday, February 20 celebrated the original Bendemere Shire of Wallumbilla and Yuleba.

Peter Flynn, vice present of the Roma Turf Club paid respect to Barry Evans, former jockey; Stan Park, former trainer and Viv Humphrey's, also a former trainer in Roma who had passed away in the last 12 months.

The first race was paid in respect to them - Barry Evans, Stan Park, Viv Humprehey's Memorial QTIS Maiden Plate 1000 metres.

Pat Webster's horse Leica Special, ridden by Angela Jones came in first.

Craig Smith's horse Famus Fella, ridden by Dan McGillivray was second and Mark Johnstone's Sky Touch, ridden by Paul Randall was third.

Race 2 - Brandon and Associates Class B Handicap 1000 metres.

Jockey Angela Jones scored herself another win on Shamus Star in the second race.

Craig Smith came in second again with Dan McGillivray ridding Hocked and David Rewald on Get in the Groove came in third.

Race 3 - Sydeva Haulage Bendemere Cup Open 1000 metres.

Angela Jones scored herself her third win for the day on Fab's Cowboy, trained by Bevan Johnson.

Mark Johnstone's High Cost ridden by Paul Hamblin took out second place and Dan McGillivray ridding Il Bandito came in third.

Race 4 - Pickanjinnie Muggleton Benchmark 60 Handicap 900 metres.

Princess Lottie, ridden by John Rudd took out first place.

Craig Smith's Usurp, ridden by Montana Philpot came in second and Angela Jones on Foxy Bella took out third spot.

Race 5 - Raslie Chadford Benchmark 50 Handicap - 1200 metres.

Angela Jones struck again in the final race on Geng, trained by Bevan Johnson.

Craig Smith's Take a Shine, ridden by Dan McGillivray came in second and in the third place was John Rudd on Haramain.
