Gold Coast McDonald's shooting victim's chilling final words

A MARYBOROUGH mother shot dead at a Gold Coast McDonald's restaurant on Thursday screamed for her life just before being gunned down at close range, according to a witness.

The Helensvale fast-food restaurant remains a crime scene after the double shooting about 9.18am.

The woman, identified by Nine News as Karina Lock, 49, was shot dead before the male shooter, former partner Stephen Lock, 57, turned the gun on himself. He remains in a critical condition in the Gold Coast University Hospital.

The witness, named Peter, told Fairfax Media he saw the pair sitting in a blue car in the McDonald's car park, and he noticed the woman trying to get out of the car and being restrained by the man.

"She got out and yelled something to the effect that he was trying to kill her," Peter said.

4:00 PM A WOMAN shot dead allegedly by her estranged husband at a McDonalds restaurant at Helensvale had just moved to the area from Maryborough in recent weeks.

The shooting happened about 9.18am on Thursday when the woman met with her former partner in the car park of the fast food outlet.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Procter said the 49-year-old woman had agreed to meet with the man, 57, to work out the details of their separation when the incident happened.

The woman ran into McDonalds with the man following her.

He followed her into the restaurant's dining area where police claim he shot her in the head before turning the weapon on himself.

Despite police attempts to save her the woman died on the scene and the man was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital with what police described as "critical injuries to the head".

Gold Coast Detective Inspector Mark White described the scene as "graphic and tragic".

Police are speaking to the witnesses as well as examining the store's CCTV footage.

Det Insp White said many customers were highly distressed after witnessing the alleged shooting.

"Some of them are actually quite distraught," he said.

He said police were assisting traumatised witnesses seek counselling.

In a statement McDonald's Australia said they were assisting police and providing counselling for employees.

"This is obviously a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the families," the statement said.

A MAN has fatally shot a woman in the head, then turned the gun on himself in an terrifying incident at a Gold Coast McDonald's.

Emergency crews rushed to the McDonald's on Siganto Dr, Helensvale after reports two people were shot.

Police said the woman had died following a shooting.

Preliminary advice indicates the woman was shot in the head around 9.15am. She died at the scene.

A man, who was known to the woman, has been transported to hospital with an apparent self-inflicted gun shot wound.

No one else was injured and police investigations are continuing.

Earlier the Gold Coast Bulletin reported that ambulance officers were performing CPR on the woman but she had no pulse.

Initial reports suggested the man has been shot in the stomach. 

He was said to be still breathing and is also being treated by ambulance officers.

The drama follows the alleged brutal bashing of a woman by her former bikie partner on the Gold Coast on Tuesday.

Tara Brown, 24, suffered critical head injuries.

Following her death in hospital late on Wednesday, her former partner had his attempted murder charge upgraded to murder.
