Government launches new regional connectivity service

FEDERAL Communications Minister Paul Fletcher was at the Royal Flying Doctor Service hangers this week and announced the launch of Sky Muster Plus services.

Already in use by the RFDS, to counter blackspots in regional Queensland, the service provides not just internet access but the innovative technology solutions for the provision of primary health clinics and the delivery of aeromedical emergency services across the country.

The NBN Co's new Sky Muster Plus will provide unmetered data for essential daily tasks.

Mr Fletcher said access to unmetered data will provide Australians living in regional and remote communities with more opportunities to embrace online services.

"Sky Muster Plus is a great example of the flexibility of the NBN satellites, delivering tailored products to allow consumers to access greater benefits,” Mr Fletcher said.

"I congratulate NBN Co on the new product. It shows they are working to improve services to keep regional Australia better connected.”

Sky Muster Plus offers:

Unmetered data: Using email, browsing the web (excluding video and multimedia) and updating operating systems won't count towards your monthly data allowance

Speed bursts: The speed of the Sky Muster Plus product will be able to burst above the current maximum speed of 25Mpbs

Unshaped usage: Once you reach your monthly data allowance and your speed is shaped, using your email, browsing the web and updating systems will remain unshaped
