Guus Hiddink linked with Leicester City job

FOOTBALL: Leicester City is targeting Guus Hiddink to become the new Foxes manager after the axing of Claudio Ranieri, according to The Telegraph in the UK.

The 70-year-old former Socceroos boss is reportedly seen as a perfect candidate to take over from the departed Italian given the impact he made in a similar situation at Chelsea last year.

The Dutchman was installed as interim manager when Jose Mourinho was sacked four months after winning the English Premier League, while Ranieri's reign after winning the title last nine months.

Hiddink turned down the Foxes role before Ranieri took over from Nigel Pearson in 2015, but is reportedly uncertain whether he wants the job now.

The Foxes would reportedly want Hiddink, who led Australia to the 2006 World Cup Round of 16, to manage Leicester until the end of the season before they deciding their next mangerial move.

The Dutchman's experience in the Champions League is reportedly also seen as important as Leicester have an important last-16 second leg against Sevilla at home to come.

The report in The Telegraph also states that Leicester has approached Portuguese coach Vitor Pereira, who is at 1860 Munich.

However, Leicester's star players have been asked if they want Nigel Pearson to return to the King Power, according to The Sun.

Pearson was axed after saving the club from relegation in the 2014-15 season, with Leicester citing "fundamental differences in perspective exist between us" as the reason.

Roberto Mancini reportedly emerged as the first favourite for the Foxes head coach role, but according to Sky, he isn't keen on the job.

The bookmakers next favourite is Alan Pardew, while Roy Hodgson, Frank de Boer, and Aaron Mooy's Huddersfield boss David Wagner are other potential candidates.

As it stands, caretaker manager Craig Shakespeare will manage the Foxes for their clash against Liverpool on Tuesday morning.
