'Help save Betty White from 2016 death'

A US man doesn't want 94-year-old comic actress Betty White to suffer the fate of other celebrities who have kicked the bucket this year.

He has started a GoFundMe page so he can act as her protector.

Demetrios Hrysikos hopes fans will cough up $US2000 to pay for his efforts.

On Thursday morning, more than $3300 had already been donated.

"Help 2016 catch these hands if it goes anywhere near Betty White!" he wrote. "If she's okay with it I will fly to wherever Betty White is and keep her safe till Jan 1, 2017."

Mr Hrysikos said that if White doesn't "want a strange Greek standing guard outside her door all moneys will be donated to the Spartanburg little theatre to help craft new stars of stage and screen to carry mantle of the legends that have left is this year."

Then another generation discovered her as naive Rose Nyland in The Golden Girls.

She proved that there are roles for older actresses when she resurfaced in movies like The Proposal with Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock.
