Injured Ironman 70.3 rider recovers in hospital

AN IRONMAN 70.3 competitor injured before Sunday's race on the Sunshine Coast remains in a Brisbane hospital.

Gold Coast-based triathlete Jake Montgomery was injured on Saturday afternoon when the bicycle he was riding and a car collided on David Low Way at Diddillibah.

The 22-year-old was taken to Nambour General Hospital with a serious head injury before being taken to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital on Sunday.

He was listed on Thursday afternoon as being in a stable condition.

The police Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Officers want to speak with anyone who saw the crash or helped afterwards.
