BEING cut off by flood waters is something Quilpie hasn't seen for many years, and new drone footage shows the extent of the water that has filled up Queensland's Channel Country.

The town became an island in the desert practically overnight, when the Bulloo River broke its banks and rose over the main roads out of town on Thursday.

Local resident, Roger Volz, took the opportunity to send up his done while the town waits for flood waters to recede and routines to return to normal.

Volz's photos not only show the extent of the flooding in the region, but how the Channel Country is built to withstand the massive amounts of water flowing downstream.
