JOANNE Marie McCauley has repeatedly told a coronial inquest she only claimed to have hit a cyclist on the Warrego Hwy to scare off a man she believed was a child rapist.

She said she only claimed to be responsible for the death of Chinese national Shui Ki Chan when the man was nearby to frighten him.

But the inquest on Tuesday heard from two men who claimed Ms McCauley had told them separately that she hit Mr Chan and left him for dead.

Mr Chan was cycling on the Warrego Hwy in August, 2012 when he was hit by a car. He was left in a ditch on the side of the road and died from hypothermia.

John Urquhart told the Brisbane Coroners Court Ms McCauley had described running over Mr Chan like "stepping on an ant".

Mr Urquhart admitted at the time he was using the drug speed and drinking heavily, but denied anyone else was with them when Ms McCauley told him she had struck Mr Chan.

"I wasn't mixed up with (the man) at all," he told the court.

Similarly Peter John Arrowsmith, the father of Ms McCauley's son, told the court Ms McCauley had told him she had run down Mr Chan and claimed the alleged supposed rapist was not present.
