Jets owner Nathan Tinkler reprimanded for attacking journo

NEWCASTLE Jets owner Nathan Tinkler has been reprimanded for a verbal attack on a journalist last month.

Football Federation Australia had the option to fine or ban Tinkler from games after finding he had breached the National Code of Conduct in an exchange in the press box with Newcastle Herald journalist Robert Dillon after the Jets' 4-3 loss to Sydney FC on April 17.

"Mr Tinkler has been issued with an official reprimand and counselled on his obligation at all times to behave in a manner that promotes and upholds the highest standards of integrity, dignity and professionalism in Australian football," the FFA said in a statement.

It was alleged Tinkler confronted Dillon and at some point said to him "I hope you get cancer and die" after previously stating the Herald was a "cancer".

Tinkler will have one week to appeal the decision.
