Alan Jones new face of green fight in anti-coal ad

RADIO broadcaster Alan Jones has hit out at Abbott government plans to stop environmental groups appealing mine approvals.

Mr Jones has starred in a television advertisement funded by Lock the Gate and decrying the legislation that was a response to a court judgment about Adani's Carmichael coal mine.

The shock jock tells viewers that the changes, if passed by parliament, would mean people were "not allowed to care" about such decisions.

It came as the Minerals Council of Australia on Monday launched a new campaign touting the economic benefits of coal for providing electricity.

The MCA advertisement said "Isn't it amazing what this little black rock can do?".

The warring campaigns were the latest in a string of campaigns by green groups and miners in recent months aiming to shape opinion on climate change.
