Kick-start the season
THE footy field at Augathella and sports clubs in Cunnamulla will see some new additions soon, with recently-received grants to cover the cost of upgrades in both towns.
Funding from the Get Playing and Spaces Program will help the Paroo Shire Council start upgrades to existing amenities and change rooms, and also install a new shed to support a range of sports in Cunnamulla.
Meanwhile in Augathella, rugby league games and training sessions could be pushed back into the cooler hours of the evening, with a grant for the Junior Rugby League Club earmarked to fix the lighting at the grounds.
A total of $72,588 will illuminate Brassington Park, and $150,000 will get the ball rolling on the new facilities in Cunnamulla.
Member for Warrego, Ann Leahy, said the helping hand for local infrastructure is exciting for both the Augathella Meat Ants and the Paroo Shire.
"This level of infrastructure funding is a huge boost to clubs and council who would not be able to undertake the projects without grant funding assistance from Get Playing Places and Spaces.
"It is an annual program that opens mid-year, and funds up to $150,000 for infrastructure development with eligible organisations who are contributing a minimum of 20 per cent of the total project costs,” she said.
Applications for the next round of this particular funding will open later this year, and interested clubs can find out more from their state electorate office, which also offers information on other support for local clubs.
