Leak: Govt considering no permanent visa for asylum seekers

THE Turnbull government might be considering the removal of asylum seekers' access to permanent residency, a leaked document revealed yesterday.

The ABC reported the paper suggested Immigration Minister Peter Dutton was planning the change, despite his office saying he had not yet seen it.

The paper outlines plans to remove direct access to permanent residency for asylum seekers, overhaul the citizenship test and increase monitoring of migrants after they became citizens - on the basis of concerns about terrorism.
