Leonardo DiCaprio wins first Oscar for The Revenant
LEONARDO DiCaprio has finally won his first Oscar more than two decades after his first nomination.
The actor was the favourite to win Best Actor at today's Academy Awards for his gruelling role in director Alejandro G Inarritu's frontier epic The Revenant.

DiCaprio has been nominated in the Oscars acting categories four times including for Best Supporting Actor in 1994 for What's Eating Gilbert Grape and two years ago for Best Actor for The Wolf of Wall Street.
DiCaprio received a standing ovation and thanked Inarritu for creating a "transcendent cinematic experience".

He also used the platform to voice his concerns about climate change.
"Making The Revenant was about man's relationship to the natural world, the world we collectively felt in 2015 as the hottest year in history," he said.
"Climate change is real; it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.
"Let us not take this planet for granted; I do not take tonight for granted."
The Revenant fell short of winning the top gong of the night, Best Picture, which went to the drama Spotlight.
