TODAY Show host and Order of Australia recipient Lisa Wilkinson has torn into Sunshine Coast MP and mining magnate Clive Palmer in a fiery television interview on Friday morning.

She said that as a Federal MP for the Sunshine Coast seat of Fairfax, he had questions to answer.

"Is it fair to say that your stint has been at best an embarassment and at worst a disaster?" she asked.

"You fall asleep in Parliament. You often don't bother to turn up.

"Your so-called Palmer United Party has imploded.

"You have betrayed the faith of everyone who believed in you, from Queensland Nickel to the Chinese partners to your workers and voters in your electorate.

"What do you think the average Australian voter thinks of you right now?"

Ms Wilkinson also targeted his claims of being generous, asking why he hasn't yet paid the entitlements for the 200 families affected by job losses at his Queensland Nickel refinery in Townsville.

Speaking from the Gold Coast, Mr Palmer said it was up to the administrator to make those decisions but that "I've made $250 million available".

In January the company went into voluntary administration after it announced redundancies for 240 workers.

Mr Palmer has blamed the troubles facing the company on a slump in world nickel prices.

The Sunshine Coast MP also lobbied the Queensland and Federal governments for financial help prior to going into administration.

In the days after the announcement, it was revealed the Queensland Nickel business had donated more than $6 million to Mr Palmer's own Palmer United Party in the 2014-15 financial year.
