LNP officially begins search for Wide Bay candidate

NOMINATIONS have officially opened to replace Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss as candidate the next federal election.

The seat was left vacant after Mr Truss announced his retirement from federal politics earlier this month.

The seat already has seen some interest, with state Member for Callide and former Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney suggesting he may put his hand up for a jersey.

"The LNP is seeking candidates who share our party's values and will provide strong representation for their electorates in the Turnbull Government that is committed to securing Australia's future prosperity," a statement about nominations reads.

The Labor Party has already pre-selected Noosa-based Lucy Stanton for the seat.

Ms Stanton took on Mr Truss in the 2013 election winning 36.84% of the two-party preferred vote.

Nominations for the LNP pre-selection will close on March 7.
