A TWEET meant to demonstrate the disrepair of regional Queensland infrastructure has backfired on the LNP after it was revealed the picture it featured was of an eastern European road.

As Deputy Premier Jackie Trad was speaking about infrastructure the Queensland Opposition Media Twitter account posted a photo of a rough gravel road to show how bad regional infrastructure was.

The photo featured a house in the background - which Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk pointed out had a thatched roof.

"Where is this thatched roof house in regional Queensland?" she said.

She said the picture was in fact taken of a Slovakian road taken from a travel blog about a couple cycling from western to eastern Europe.

"It is some 14,000km away from Queensland."

Ms Trad returned fire on Twitter.

"You might want to find a road in #Regional #Qld instead of Europe!," she said.

But the Opposition Twitter account claimed the gaffe as a victory stating it had made the government address a topic it wanted to ignore.

"Hahaha - it took a simple picture to get @AnnastaciaMP to finally talk about regional roads #MissionAccomplished," the account tweeted.

The LNP has targeted the government's record on regional Queensland. Opposition Deputy Leader Deb Frecklington accused the government of spending money designated for regional areas in metropolitan locations.

"This is a government that has no idea where rural and regional Queensland is," she said.

"Yamanto - that is 35km from here - it is not regional Queensland.

"This is a government that has slashed the Royalties for Regions program - a program that was delivering projects like water treatment plants, like overtaking lanes, road projects, wooden bridge projects, projects that were keeping people in the regions in jobs."
