Man arrested for 203 child exploitation offences

A 22-year-old Mackay man has been charged with more than 200 child exploitation material offences following a six-month police investigation.

Detectives from Townsville CPIU and Taskforce Argos commenced an investigation into the man when they executed a search warrant at a Townsville residence in August last year.

The man was charged with three child exploitation offences and released on bail, a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.

Those offences were only the tip of the iceberg.

As a result of further investigations, the 22-year-old man was today arrested in Mackay and charged with 203 offences.

The charges included 193 counts of distributing child exploitation material, five counts of using a carriage service to transmit child pornography, two counts each of using the internet to procure a child under 16 and possessing child exploitation material and one count of using the internet to groom a child.

He is due to appear in the Townsville Magistrates Court on March 15.
