THE man charged with manslaughter over a workplace electrocution in Clermont four years ago spent less than a minute before a magistrate this morning.

Nathan Day, 29, faced Brisbane Magistrates Court for the first time over the charge laid earlier this month.

The case was adjourned to August 8 for mention in a callover.

Jason Garrels, 20, was electrocuted nine days into his new job as a trade's assistant for builder Daytona Trading.

He was working on apartments being built at Clermont, where his family was living, in 2012.

Mr Day, 29, was the electrical contractor on the site of a unit development complex at McDonald Flat Rd.

The Caboolture man is the director of Cold Spark Pty Ltd.

Mr Day was charged after a Mackay coroner referred the death to police to investigate criminal charges following a coronial inquest last year.

Jason's father Michael Garrels has pushed for changes to how electricians are trained and licensed in Queensland since the death.

He has also sought to shed a light on the way workplace incidents are investigated, including pushing for an inquest into his son's death.

He and wife Lee drove down from Gympie, where the family now lives, for the brief court appearance this morning.

"We are representing our son," Mrs Garrels said.

Mr Garrels said they would see the manslaughter case through to its conclusion.

"You can't be happy about anything. We've seen it through from day one. We will continue," he said.

Mr Day, who is on bail, left with his lawyer but neither made comments outside the court. - ARM NEWSESK
