Man charged over cop assault

POLICE have charged a man following the alleged assault of a police officer in Kelvin Grove that was caught on dashcam.

A 21-year-old Loganholme man handed himself in to police this afternoon.

He has been issued with a notice to appear in Brisbane Magistrate's Court on May 9 charged with one count each of assault police, obstruct police and public nuisance.

EARLIER REPORT: POLICE are on the hunt for a man who pushed an officer to the ground and snatched his handcuffs in Brisbane last night.

The senior sergeant had been patrolling Kelvin Grove Rd around 11.10pm when he noticed the man walking in the path of traffic.

While speaking to the man near Musk Ave, the man became increasingly agitated, eventually resisting arrest.

The man, about 180cm tall with short brown hair, then pushed the officer to the ground before grabbing the handcuffs and fleeing the scene on foot.

Police patrolled the area but the man remains on the run.

The 44-year-old officer suffered an injury to his elbow but did not require medical treatment.

The man was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, dark shorts and black shoes.
