Man fined for driving motorbike with no helmet

A MAN was fined over $350 for not wearing a helmet while driving a motorbike in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court on Friday.

Jai Rodney Keith Brady-Lawrence pleaded guilty to four charges, including driving an uninsured vehicle and failing to wear a motorbike helmet after an incident on April 2.

Police prosecutor Clancy Fox said police observed Brady-Lawrence on a "dirt or trail" motorcycle, which cannot be registered for use on roads.

"The defendant stated he did not own the motorcycle (and was) going for ride with friends," Mr Fox said.

"He stated he was not wearing a helmet because he was driving on what he thought was private property."

Magistrate Cameron Press fined Brady-Lawrence $150 for driving an unregistered vehicle, $200 for driving an uninsured vehicle, $350 for driving while on a suspended license and around $350 for failing to wear a helmet.

He was also disqualified for holding or obtaining a drivers license for six months.

"These are not insignificant fines for no apparent reason," Mr Press told Brady-Lawrence.

"There is no reason for doing this."
