Man tasered, arrested for fighting off police after crash

IPSWICH police have used pepper spray and a taser to subdue a 34-year-old alleged burglar who officers say became violent following a highway crash on Australia Day.

The 34-year-old caught the attention of police after other drivers reported a car being driven dangerously on the Cunningham Hwy, then later leaving the road and smashing through a fence.

When police arrived, they found an allegedly stolen vehicle and found a man nearby.

According to police, the man "aggressively resisted" and officers have used both their pepper spray and a taser to settle him down.

Even after being shocked and sprayed, police say the man still fought back.

When he was eventually arrested, he was hit with six charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, unlawful use of a vehicle, driving a vehicle without a licence, failing to provide a breath specimen for analysis and two counts of assault or obstruct police.

He was later charged with burglary and receiving tainted property in relation to the stolen vehicle.

The man will face court in Ipswich on Wednesday.
