Man turns up to court drunk after mates 21st birthday party

ANDREW Lindsay Warburton, 35, might have given more than just himself a headache on Thursday, after he turned up drunk to his court appearance.

Appearing before Magistrate Graeme Tatnell in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court, Mr Warburton said he had forgotten about his court appearance and had spent Wednesday night at a 21st birthday party.

"I didn't remember today was the day," Mr Warburton said.

The Urangan man did not enter a plea to two charges, including public nuisance and obstructing a police officer.

Mr Warburton slurred his words as he asked the magistrate if he could appear another day.

Mr Tatnell ordered Mr Warburton to appear for further mention on April 21, and warned him to be in a better condition.

"Do you understand what's going on?" Mr Tatnell said.

"Next time turn up and be sober."

Mr Tatnell warned Mr Warburton if he appeared in court drunk again, he would spend some time in the watch house.
