Miner's body lay undiscovered for three days
THE body of opal miner Frank Morro, 83, had lain at the bottom of a 20m shaft for nearly three days before being discovered on Wednesday.
Emergency services workers travelled to Opalton, a remote mining community 120km southwest of Winton, to retrieve the body.
Fellow miners described Mr Morro as a man who worked hard and who was always ready to lend a hand.
Friends Milan "Charlie" Prodanov and Dan Dukarich both described Mr Morro as "a man who never gave up".
Mr Prodanov said Mr Morro was his closest neighbour and visited him nearly every afternoon.
