Minister receives findings from black lung review

STATE Minister for Natural Resources and Mines Dr Anthony Lynham has received interim findings from a review into the return of black lung in Queensland.

Head of the review team Professor Malcolm Sim handed Dr Lynham the report yesterday, but said the final findings would not be ready for public release until the end of June.

"We've done a review of the nominated medical advisors, we've looked at the forms that are used and the respiratory compartments of that," he said. "We've started the review of the x-rays and spirometry results as well; that's going to take a little longer to finish."

Australia's peak body representing lung health professionals, the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand, yesterday called for "a complete overhaul of the system".
