MKR young guns impress with magical forest food
BROTHER and sister Mitch and Laura are the cooks to beat so far on My Kitchen Rules.
The youngest ever team on MKR, aged 18 and 20, the siblings were out to prove they're not the "kids" of the competition.
They didn't get off to a great start, using an hour of their three-hour preparation time travelling home from the shops and decorating of their forest-themed instant restaurant The Pines.
The sustainable food-loving duo hoped to score the first perfect 10 in their group and they pulled it off by saving the best for last.
The night began with a theatrical display as cloches filled with smoke were lifted to reveal a pretty entrée.

But the smoke couldn't hide the slightly overcooked venison.
"Wow what a show," judge Manu Feildel said.
"Two things on there are missing - a little bit of a jus and the biggest thing is you promised me which was something quite rare and juicy and soft and I didn't get that. I'm amazed and disappointed at the same time."
They tried to regroup for the main course, but nearly overcooked their wild boar and were forced to serve it pan seared rather than roasted as promised on their menu.
"What you delivered was a delightful meal; you cooked the boar beautifully," Pete Evans said.
"The only thing I didn't like was the cranberry sauce… I reckon a traditional jus would have made this dish even better."

A runny ice cream threatened to derail their technically challenging dessert.
"Your black forest mousse cake was perfect," Evans said.
"The only negative I have is you have some ice cream on there and I don't mind it wasn't set but it detracted from what you set out to do."
But Feildel disagreed with his fellow judge and awarded the siblings a perfect score.
"Even though the ice cream came to the table melting, for me it was all perfect," he said.
"This type of dessert with the amount of techniques and layers, at this point in the comp is brilliant.
"If you're going to be with us for a while I think we're going to get some amazing dishes out of you."
Brisbane lovebirds Cheryl and Matt will host their instant restaurant tomorrow night.
